Worse Than A Bad Hand

The epic monsoon floods on 2011 are slowly receding from the record highwater marks throughout the country. Hundreds of Thai citizens have perished from the inundation. Industry and agriculture have suffered from the disruption of the infrastructure. Inner Bangkok escaped the catastrophe as promised by the government, but the outskirts joined the Central Thailand underwater. While the Asia Highway has been re-opened and flights at Cobra Swamp Airport run on schedule without any cancellations, the common folk survey the damage knowing that no help will be forthcoming from the khon yai or rich elite whose feet never got wet during the disaster. There is nothing to do but smile.Making the best of a bad hand is a trait well-known to the Thais, since the only cards that they get dealt are from the bottom of the deck.
